The Magical Pen of Wonderment and other things that happened this weekend.

So we got together the much celebrated HWS with special guest star, Chelsea to check out the newest cast of God of Carnage - including HWS favorite/archnemesis, Janet McTeer. Neither Chelsea nor I had seen the show before and what a treat we were in for!! The whole cast was fabulous, particularly the aforementioned JMcT. I was also pleasantly surprised by Lucy Liu, who turned out to be much funnier than I expected. The boys (Jeff Daniels and Dylan Baker) were fantastic too and I can't remember the last time that I laughed so hard at the theatre. I can't wait to go back and see it again!

As is our want, we went around to the stage door post show to shout at...I mean speak politely to JMcT and friends. Well! Within minutes JMcT was out of the door (we need to only see her in period pieces where it takes her awhile to get changed because I'm not entirely sure I was prepared) and completely pen-less. Thankfully, some of us are Girl Scouts and carry a freakishly large and well-stocked purse. I cheerfully handed over what is henceforth to be known as the Magical Pen of Wonderment which she used for the couple of folks around us (and us, of course) and then she very politely asked if she could continue to use it for the rest of the crowd. I will admit I did pause, with the voice of SarahB in my head ("Don't ever give away your pen!") but I took one look at our beloved JMcT and said "Yes! Whatever you want to do, Janet McTeer! I'll be right here when you're done!" I did in fact speak in all exclamation points. And then clutched the Pen for the rest of the evening. And waved it about. And gave it a voice. Wait, what? ANYWAY...
Because we're the HWS, the night didn't end there - we went back to Angus for a drink and some food and then back to the theatre for some picture taking antics (thank you KariG for all the lovely shots!!) and then back to the TLC for what turned out to be merely the beginning of the evening. Now, what happens in the HWS, stays within the HWS but let us just say that I had quite a bit of gin.

There may not have been Harriet Walter but it was certainly a weekend worthy of the memory of the Summer of Harriet Walter. I second KariG in saying that I am the luckiest lady to have such friends who invite me and join with me to have such adventures. If I can always be silly with these ladies and all the rest of our band (HW - I'm looking at you!) then my life will be full and well-lived. Amen!
